How The Colors You Choose To Wear Affect The Way You Are Perceived At Work

Do you wake up every morning only to stand in front of the closet for some 25 minutes? Do you feel like people at work don’t trust you? Would you like to stand out more among a crowd of workers? If you responded positively to at least one of these questions, you need to know some basic elements of color- wearing at work. Here you can get to know which colors work in your favor and which colors you should avoid. Keep reading to know more.

COLOURS TO INCLUDE:

  • Blue: Wear blue if you want to connote peace, loyalty and trustworthiness. This is also the best color to wear to job interviews.
  • Green: Wear green if you want to give a calm image, of a person in touch with nature and tranquility. Green is the least annoying color for the human eye.
  • Black: Wear black if you want to appear strong and authoritative, elegant and professional. Be careful with too much black. You may look depressed or people may ask you who died.

COLOURS TO AVOID:

  • Red: Don’t wear red to a job interview or to your workplace on a regular basis. It is too strong and passionate for everyday tasks and sometimes is related to romanticism and sensuality.
  • Brown: Don’t wear brown if you don’t want to look like a potato or give an image of weakness. Brown on its own is a very dull color that people perceive as weak and boring.
  • Grey: Don’t wear grey if you don’t want to connote laziness and low interest on what you do. You may look like someone who doesn’t care about their personal image or someone sad or depressed.
  • Yellow: Don’t wear yellow if you don’t want to hurt everybody’s eyes or give the image of someone impulsive and distracted. Yellow is too bright and to happy for a work environment.

COLOURS TO USE IN MODERATION

  • Purple: Wear purple in complements, like handbags or handkerchiefs to connote royalty and eccentricity. It is a very classy color, but sometimes perceived as artificial.
  • Orange: Wear orange in small doses to look passionate and strong, but without the negative effects of red. Be careful with the piece of orange clothing you choose, because orange doesn’t look good on all fabrics.
  • White: Wear white, but not an all-white outfit if you don’t want to be confused with a chef or a painter. White is too plain and neutral to be worn on its own. On some pieces, however, it can connote purity and elegance.
  • Pink: Wear pink in paler shades and avoid fuchsias and bubblegum pinks, because those are too bright and annoying. It provides femininity on women and self-confidence in men. If you are not sure about pink, try salmon shades that look good on almost everybody.

Use these pieces of advice to choose what clothes you wear every day, but don’t change your personality only because you want someone at work to like or notice you. Also bear in mind that color combinations may vary and not suit everybody. Choose the colors that go with the tone of your skin, hair and eyes in order to get a perfect match.
